The SIS Alumni Society is an active community of SIS graduates who provide the connection between the school and its alumni. The Society provides value support to the school at conferences, in recruitment and by financial contributions. The SIS Alumni Society also helps the school connect by encouraging alumni to stay connected via email and address updates and listserv participation. This brochure provides an overview of the SIS Alumni Society.

Drumheller Explains E-reader Library Relationship

ETLA announces the 2011 Rothrock Lecture
The East Tennessee Library Association (ETLA) will present the 2011 Mary Utopia Rothrock Lecture on Thursday evening, April 28. Two sisters, Felicia Felder-Hoehne and Dr. Barbara Lynne Ivey Yarn, MD, Knoxville natives, will share the stage as speakers this year. Time and venue for the lecture are TBA.
Two SIS graduates are current members of the board for ETLA: Lisa Travis, VP, and Martha Earl, Secretary. The ETLA website is at http://www.lib.utk.edu/~etla.

SIS graduate wins national award
Theresa Venable, librarian at the Children's Defense Fund Haley Farm's Langston Hughes Library and a 2003 graduate of the School of Information Sciences, recently won the 2011 Zora Neale Hurston award. This award recognizes significant efforts to promote African-American authors and literature.

Vision Tour of Outstanding School Libraries Honors SIS Grad's Library at West High School
On February 9, SIS graduate, Sarah Searles, will proudly watch as her West High School library is honored as one of the top 35 school libraries in the country by the American Association of School Librarians.

SIS Alumni & Friends Day to Explore “Information Seekers in the 21st Century"
The School of Information Sciences is pleased to announce this year's Alumni and Friends Day on March 27 from 1-4 pm at the UT Hoskins Library Delivery Hall. Dr. Carol Tenopir will present the keynote talk and will discuss information seeking and use of scholarly articles. Alumni speakers will explore the topic of Information Seekers in the 21st Century from a variety of perspectives.
