Title of Presentation: “Avoidance of Information in the Context of Information Seeking”
Abstract:
The history of information behavior research has gone through a number of changes in terminology and emphasis over more than 60 years. This is largely due to the expansion of phenomena examined under the banner of "information behavior." One area in which this has happened is the inclusion of non-intentional information acquisition; another is the deliberate avoidance of information. This presentation will examine this trend with an emphasis on how avoiding information has been treated within the literature of psychology, communication and information studies.
