SIS Alumni Board Wants Your Vote!

This spring, SIS alumni nominated six individuals for a 2-year placement on the SIS Alumni Board to begin office on September 1, 2004. Please vote for two individuals that you believe are best qualified to become an alumni board member at the School of Information Sciences.

**The deadline for voting is July 31.**

**Biographies of Nominees**

**Gretchen Beal** is Director of Information Services and GIS at the
Knox County Metropolitan Planning Commission. She is on the editorial
board of the Journal of Planning Literature, a Sage publication.

**Tiffany Conner** is a Reference Librarian/Liaison to Sociology at the University of Connecticut, and also works with the Human Rights Initiative and the Roper Center for Public Opinion. Tiffani is very involved with TLA and ALA activities as part of the ALA New Members Round Table and the TLA Scholarship Committee. Active in the Knoxville community before she moved, Tiffani has worked with area artists, high school students, and Keep Knoxville Beautiful to complete the Knoxville Music History Mural in the Old City, and was a volunteer for Knoxville's Habitat for Humanity program, Heart & Soul Interiors where she teaches a community murals workshop.

**Leslie Duncan** is the Manager of Information Services of the National Limb Loss Information Center (NLLIC). Her background includes experience in library and information management in state, public, and academic organizations. She is a member of the Medical Library Association, Southern Chapter; East Tennessee Library Association; American Public Health Association; Special Library Association; Tennessee Library Association; and the American Library Association.

**Doris Martinson** is the Manager and Archivist for Knox County Archives, East Tennessee History Center, a part of the Knox County Public Library System. She has served as President of UT-SIS Alums, President of ARMA East TN Chapter, President of the Society of Tennessee Archivists, and she is a charter member of the Academy of Certified Archivists.

**Chrissie Anderson Peters** is a Librarian at Northeast State Community College in Blountville, TN. She is a member of several national and state associations and serves on several committees, including immediate past-secretary of ALA's New Members Round Table (NMRT); Association for Library Services to Children (ALSC); member of the Professional Development Committee for the Young Adults Library Services Association (YALSA); Public Library Association (PLA); Scholarship Committee for the Virginia Library Association (VLA); and Co-Chair of the Tennessee Library Association (TLA) Public Relations Committee, Co-Chair of the TLA Scholarship Committee, and Editor for the TLA Newsletter. She is also President of Boone Tree Library Association in Northeast, TN, and is involved with the Imagination Library project in Sullivan County, TN.

**Anthony D. Smith** is the Digital Initiatives Coordinator and Assistant Professor at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. His leadership with the development of the UT Digital Library Center has been instrumental in creating a regional model for digital libraries. Smith is a member of the American Library Association, Library and Information Technology Association, and the Project Management Institute.

**Tom Whisman** has worked in the Reference Department at Knox County Public Library since 1971 and has been Business Reference Manager since 1991. Current organizational memberships include: East Tennessee Library Association, Greater Knoxville Research Network (treasurer), Knoxville-Oak Ridge Regional Network Board (secretary), and the Staff Association of the Knox County Public Library (president).
