The school’s curricular revisions formalize changes that have --
substantively -- already been adopted by SIS faculty. The curriculum has not
substantially changed, just revised to reflect what the school actually
offers, which also more adequately reflects evolving trends in library and
information sciences. The University Graduate Council approved the
changes on January 27, 2005.
Students admitted before Fall 2005 will have
the option of graduating under the existing catalog requirements or
the revised requirements that go into effect Fall 2005.
Highlights of the revised curriculum include:
- Reduction in Required Courses (from 5 to 3)
- The addition of "Highly Recommended Courses"
- Additional Courses, Course Changes, and Dropped Courses
- Allowance for students to take more coursework outside of SIS
- Revised course requirements for students pursuing endorsement for
becoming school media specialists - Revised requirements for students pursuing the non-thesis option
Read the full detailed information about the changes.
The changes will be not be reflected in the online course descriptions
and program information on the school’s website until this summer. Please
contact Tanya Arnold at tnarnold@utk.edu for more
