Information Sciences Research Forum to Feature Two Faculty
Presentations
Multicultural issues and a look at how high school students perceive
memoirs will be the primary topics of the School of Information Sciences'
second spring Research Forum next Wednesday, April 13 in the Communications
Building.
Part I
Associate Professor Jinx Watson’s presentation is entitled Library Book
Clubs and Reader Development: Perceptions of Reading Memoir. She will report
on a recent project that she coordinated where high school students read
four memoirs by activists of the Civil Rights Movement throughout a
semester. Dr. Watson analyzed student discussions and interviews and will
share some surprise finding about how students' understanding of memoirs
evoked a new appreciation of the genre.
Part II
Assistant Professor Bharat Mehra’s presentation is entitled Diversity,
Multicultural Issues, and Social Justice:
Ideas for Future Work and Community Collaborations.
In his talk, Dr. Mehra will share some information about diversity
projects and potential collaborations with community and campus stakeholders
to address multicultural and social justice issues in information science
education and beyond.
SIS research forums are informal and open to everyone. Feel free to
