Tenopir Honored with Contributions to Information Science and Technology Award
Dr. Carol Tenopir has been awarded the prestigious Contributions to Information Science and Technology Award by the Los Angeles Chapter of the American Society for Information Science and Technology.
She will accept the award in January 2008, at the UCLA Faculty Center in Los Angeles. The LACASIS presents its Contributions to Information Science and Technology Award annually to one or more individuals who have made a significant contribution to the field. Recipients have been recognized by their colleagues as exceptional leaders whose dedication, commitment and vision inspire others, or whose singular contribution to information science has been particularly significant. Carol Tenopir joins the company of such distinguished past award recipients such as Eugene Garfield, Tefko Saracevic, and Christine Borgman.
SIS Professor Carol Tenopir, who joined the faculty in 1994, is recognized as the most research productive library and information science faculty member in the United States. She is the Director of Research for the College of Communication and Information and Director of the Center for Information and Communication Studies at the University of Tennessee.
Dr. Tenopir has authored five books, has published more than 200 journal articles, and has written the "Online Databases” column for Library Journal since 1983. Among many other honors, she received the 1993 Outstanding Information Science Teacher Award from the American Society for Information Science/Institute for Scientific Information and the 2000 ALISE Award for Teaching Excellence. She also received the 2002 Research Award from the American Society for Information Science & Technology, the 2004 International Information Industry Lifetime Achievement Award, and the 2007 Distinguished Alumni Award from Whittier College.
The School of Information Sciences is one of four schools within the College of Communication and Information at the University of Tennessee.
