Students should pay close attention to calendar deadlines for their practicums. The application deadline for the current semester is listed on the SIS Course Schedule page under IS 599.
Application Deadlines:
- Interested students should discuss their interests with their advisor, complete the Practicum application, and contact the Practicum Coordinator the semester prior to the term they wish to do a practicum. Practicum objectives should be developed with the advisor. The advisor should submit the Advisor Objectives Approval Form to the Practicum Coordinator indicating approval of the student's practicum objectives.
- Students should discuss their practicum objectives with the supervisor, especially in terms of actual duties expected of the student. The supervisor should submit the Practicum Supervisor Objectives Approval Form to the Practicum Coordinator.
- The practicum application must be finalized (with the student’s advisor’s submitted approval and that of the supervisor) and submitted to the Practicum Coordinator before the course schedule deadline the semester before the Practicum. This does not mean that all the arrangements for the practicum are completed, just the application process.
- After the Practicum Coordinator has the Advisor objectives approval form and the Practicum Supervisor objectives approval form, and the completed practicum application from the student, the Practicum Coordinator will notify the student, advisor and practicum supervisor of practicum approval or rejection.
- Once the student has received approval from the Practicum Coordinator, the student may access the IS 599 BlackBoard course site at Online@UT.
Practicum Evaluations: Students must provide two evaluations during their practicum: the Mid-Point Evaluation and the Final Practicum Evaluation. Since practicums can begin or end at any time, students are asked to track when their particular evaluations are due.
Mid-Point Evaluation: Students will calculate the mid-point of their practicum and at least one week before that point in the term will ask their supervisor(s) to complete the Mid-Point Evaluation form. Students should also use this opportunity to ask their supervisor for an evaluation of their efforts.
Final Practicum Evaluation: Students will calculate the end point of their practicum and at least 10 days before that point in the term will ask their supervisor to complete the Final Practicum Evaluation form.
Practicum Report: Students will submit an un-graded 6-10 page report describing and evaluating the practicum at least one week before the end of classes for the semester. More information concerning requirement for the report is located under Practicum Expectations.
Student Feedback for Practicum Coordinator: Students will fill out a Student Feedback for Practicum Coordinator at the end of the Practicum. The form will be submitted to SIS Practicum Coordinator in the final week of classes for the semester.
