ScienceLinks2 Courses

ScienceLinks2 PhD students will take a total of 38-41 credit hours of coursework in their first two years. The required core (12 hours), which is team-taught by faculty members from all areas of the College, delivers both theory and method in an integrated approach that focuses on “ways of knowing” and prepares students for conducting research. Within the primary and cognate areas (21 hours of total coursework) students must take a minimum of six hours of theory-intensive classes and six hours of methods-intensive classes. Students can identify any course that they believe meets these requirements and work with their advisor to put together a coherent program plan with appropriate depth and rigor in content areas, methods, and theory.

For ScienceLinks2 PhD students these courses will be related to science librarianship, science data, or science information/communication topics, including the courses described above. In addition, two seminars (1 credit each) are part of the ScienceLinks2 PhD program (but are open to all students.) These seminars will provide an opportunity for discussion and guest speakers on important science information topics such as data curation, collaborative science, and open access or open peer review.
