  • Suzie Allard (Principal Investigator) is an Assistant Professor and Associate Director in the School of Information Sciences at the University of Tennessee. Her research focuses on science information and communication, particularly the full life cycle of earth environmental information, and how scientists use and communicate information to improve science data practices.
  • Carol Tenopir (Co-Principal Investigator) is a Professor in the School of Information Sciences, Director of Research, and Director of the Center for Information and Communication Studies at the University of Tennessee. Recently appointed a University Chancellor’s Professor, Tenopir is internationally known for her research, especially on scientific communication and scholarly journals.
  • Catherine Luther (Co-Principal Investigator) is a Professor and Associate Dean in the College of Communication and Information. Before returning to the academic world for her Ph.D., Dr. Luther worked both in the United States and in Japan as a producer of television news. She now teaches in the areas of international journalism, media and diversity, media and society, and media economics and new technology.
  • Thura Mack (Library Coordinator)associate professor and training librarian at the University of Tennessee Libraries. She received a UT Libraries faculty development grant to explore the role of librarians in institutional repositories. Her other research interests include library training, women’s studies and artificial intelligence technology.
  • Benjamin Bates (academic mentor) is Professor of Journalism and Electronic Media, and is also an adjunct Professor in the School of Information Sciences. His recent work has focused on the development and impact of digital technologies in communication and on information and media economics and policy.
  • Vandana Singh (academic mentor) is an Assistant Professor of Information Sciences, has a background in computer science and her research areas and work experience are in software technical support, open source software development, human-computer interaction, and online communities of practice.
  • Kenneth Levine (academic mentor) is an Associate Professor in the College of Communication and Information. Dr. Levine’s research agenda concentrates on organizational communication, small group communication and leadership. His organizational communication research centers on anticipatory socialization; specifically looking at the messages sent by and received from the various sources of socialization and the impact of these messages on work, worklife and career aspirations.
  • Peiling Wang (academic mentor) is a Professor of Information Sciences, earned her undergraduate degree in chemistry. Research interests focus on data mining and knowledge discovery; user information seeking behaviors; cognitive and affective computing; research methodology and methods; citation analysis.
  • Kimberly Douglass (academic mentor) is an Assistant Professor of Information Sciences.  Her research interests include the intersection of science and policy, information policy, and information ethics education.
  • Elizabeth Hendrickson (academic mentor) is an Assistant Professor of Journalism and Electronic Media.  Her research interests include social media cultivation, computer mediated communication, media adoption of communication technologies, and cultural production.
