ScienceLinks2 Research Opportunities

  • The School of Information Sciences, serving over 200 degree-seeking graduate students, is among the top graduate programs in library and information sciences accredited by the American Library Association. Twelve full-time faculty, plus regional and international lecturers and practitioners collaborate in an interdisciplinary Ph.D. program and an Undergraduate Minor in Information Studies & Technology.
  • The University of Tennessee Libraries include the John C. Hodges Library and the Pendergrass Agriculture & Veterinary Medicine Library. UT is a land grant university with a strong tradition of research and research dissemination. The Library system is ranked 32nd among public research libraries by the Association of Research Libraries. The library has implemented a highly successful minority post-graduate residency program. Reference and collection development librarians have considerable subject specific training and experience.
  • Oak Ridge National Laboratory is the Department of Energy’s largest science and energy laboratory. With a staff of more than 3,800 and an equal number guest researchers, basic and applied research and development initiatives cross many scientific disciplines, going beyond their traditional focus on nuclear technologies. The ORNL Research Library provides highly specialized information services. Primary subjects covered include nuclear technology, chemistry, physics, materials science, computer science, mathematics, engineering, and the biological and environmental sciences.
  • The Office of Scientific and Technical Information (OSTI) leads Department of Energy (DOE) e-government initiatives for disseminating R&D information. OSTI's mission is to advance science and sustain technological creativity by making R&D findings available and useful to DOE researchers and the American people. It is responsible for coordinating the Department's Scientific and Technical Information Program (STIP) and for ensuring the collection, preservation, and appropriate dissemination of scientific and technical information (STI) resulting from DOE research and development (R&D) programs. OSTI provides a number of virtual Web resources to make available the various forms in which scientists communicate their findings: technical reports and other gray literature, eprints, software, journal citations, and other information.
  • Information International Associates (IIa) provides information technology solutions to the Department of Energy, Oak Ridge National Laboratory, the Department of Defense, and other federal agencies. IIa is known for excellence in cost-effective, cutting edge scientific and technical information services, national and international information policy and standards development, librarianship, and intelligence work. IIa manages libraries and provides information support services for the U.S. Air Force, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), and the Department of Labor.
  • National Biological Information Infrastructure (NBII) is coordinated and operated by the U.S. Geological Survey. NBII is comprised of many partners, government agencies, academic institutions, non-government organizations, and private industry. As a Web-based program, the NBII links diverse, high-quality biological databases, information products, and analytical tools. The NBII’s mission is to make biological information widely available to a wide range of constituents and stakeholders
