Biography

Amy Disch is a news researcher at The Columbus Dispatch in Columbus,
Ohio, a position she has held since September 2005. Prior to that, she
spent five and a half years working as a library assistant for the
Wisconsin State Journal and The Capital Times, the two daily newspapers
in Madison, Wisconsin.

Amy has a Bachelor’s degree in Communication Arts, with an emphasis on
film history and a Master of Arts degree in Library and Information
Studies, both from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She is very
active in the Special Libraries Association and its News Division,
where she serves as both Secretary and Webmaster. She is also a
contributing writer for the Division’s quarterly newsletter, News
Library News. In 2004, Amy was the recipient of the Vormelker-Thomas
Student Award, an annual honor presented to a graduate student
interested in pursuing a career in news librarianship.

She served terms as secretary, President-Elect and President of the
Wisconsin SLA chapter and is currently President-Elect of the Central
Ohio SLA chapter. Last summer, Amy co-taught the SIS online course,
“Specialized Information Agencies and Services,” with Dr. Cortez, her
former professor, mentor and friend.
